How to Get to the Telluride Gondola Station
If you’re in downtown Telluride, you can simply walk to the Telluride Gondola Station. The base station is located at the corner of Oak Street and San Juan Avenue, near the center of town.
Alternatively, if you’re in Mountain Village, you can take a free shuttle or walk to the Mountain Village Station.
The Telluride Gondola Experience
Allow me to introduce you to the superstar of North American gondolas—The Telluride Gondola!
It’s not just any gondola, mind you, it’s the largest gondola in all of North America. Since its opening back in 1996, it has carried over 55 million passengers, with around 2.8 million tourists joining in on the fun every year.
The Telluride Gondola system comprises three stations, the Station in downtown Telluride, San Sophia, and Mountain Village.
The Telluride Station is located in the heart of downtown Telluride, at the base of the mountain.
(If you need assistance boarding the gondola due to a stroller or wheelchair, don’t hesitate to ask one of the friendly attendants for help. They’ll be happy to slow down the cabins to accommodate your needs.)
From there, the gondola takes you up to the San Sophia Ridge, where in the summertime, you can disembark and explore the hiking trails, or bring your mountain bike for a thrilling downhill ride.
During the winter season, the gondola cabins are equipped with ski and snowboard racks mounted on the outside. The gondola attendants will assist you in loading and unloading your equipment.
While at the top of San Sophia ridge, you can visit Allred’s Restaurant. This renowned restaurant offers delicious cuisine and panoramic views that are simply unforgettable.
If you’re not ready to end your gondola adventure yet, you can continue your journey to Mountain Village.
This station sits at an elevation of 9,500 feet above sea level and offers access to a wide range of dining, shopping, and lodging options.
The 13-minute journey up to Mountain Village boasts some of the most stunning views of the Rocky Mountains, downtown Telluride, and Mountain Village. It’s like getting a front-row seat to the most magnificent mountain landscape show you’ve ever seen!

Where to Park to ride the Gondola in Telluride (Free)
Free all-day parking is available at the Carhenge Parking Lot on West Pacific Street.
While metered parking zones are scattered throughout the business district, some side streets offer free two-hour parking. And, the best news of all? Sundays are completely free of charge!
