Winter in Telluride is a magical time, when the snow-capped mountains seem to glow against the clear blue sky. But it can also be brutally cold, with temperatures dipping below zero and the wind whipping through the valleys. That’s why it’s important to pack plenty of warm clothing. Here is our list of must haves for when you visit Telluride this winter:

Snow Boots: While many of the town’s streets are plowed and salted, boots are still necessary to navigate the icy sidewalks and slushy roads. In addition, boots provide extra warmth and insulation, which is essential when temperatures plummet at night.

Winter coat: A warm coat is essential for any winter vacation, and Telluride is no exception. The mountain town sees an average of 300 inches of snow each year, so you’ll want a coat that can keep you warm in the harshest conditions. Look for a coat with a waterproof outer layer and a down or synthetic insulation.

Crampons: Crampons are metal traction devices that attach to your boots and provide additional grip on icy or snowy surfaces. They are essential when hiking on packed snow or walking on slippery sidewalks.

Beanie: A beanie will help keep your head and ears warm, even when the wind is howling. When choosing a beanie, look for one that is made from wool or another natural fiber. Synthetic fibers may not be as warm, and they can also cause static electricity that makes your hair stand on end.

Gloves: One essential item for any winter vacation is a good pair of gloves. After all, there’s nothing worse than having cold, wet hands while you’re trying to enjoy your time on the mountain. We love these hand-warming gloves!

Oxygen Boost: If you’re planning a trip to Telluride this winter, be sure to pack an oxygen boost. The town’s high elevation can cause altitude sickness in some people, so it’s important to be prepared.

Electrolyte Powder:  Whether you’re snowboarding or skiing, the combination of cold weather and physical activity can lead to dehydration, which can zap your energy and leave you feeling run down. Electrolyte powder helps to replenish the minerals that are lost through sweat, keeping you hydrated and feeling your best.
