Let’s go!

First of All, What Makes a Great Hiking Outfit for Women?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to what to wear on the hiking trail, as the right women’s hiking outfit will vary depending on the climate and terrain of your hike. However, in general, the best women’s hiking clothes will keep you comfortable and dry whether you’re walking through a forest or across a desert. They’ll protect you from the elements, including rain, snow, sleet, hail, and sunburn. And they should fit comfortably.

A great hiking outfit for women should include many performance fabrics including comfortable shoes, a hat, lightweight tops, durable hiking pants, and dry wool hiking socks. If you want to stay warm, choose a jacket that is water-resistant and windproof.

Choose pants with pockets and elastic waistbands so you don’t have to carry everything in your hands. Wear a wide-brimmed hat to shade your face from sunburn. Looking for the best hiking clothes recommendations? Keep reading for an in-depth guide on the best hiking clothing for women.

How to Layer Women's Clothes

To be prepared for any weather, it’s important to layer up. Hike through your favorite terrain with confidence, knowing that you are prepared for any weather condition. Here is the order in which you will want to layer hiking clothes for women:

Base layer: is the first layer you put on; this one goes right against your skin.

Mid-layer (insulating layer): is any garment that provides insulation and is worn between a base layer and the outer layer like fleece and wool sweaters.

Outer-layer (shell): The final layer you put on, which is typically a waterproof, windproof jacket.

Layering For Colder Conditions

It is important to keep your body heat and extra layers can help with this. The first layer should be a base layer like a long sleeve merino wool and warm leggings underneath your pants, which will help you maintain a consistent internal temperature.

Next, add a mid-layer, which is typically a wool or fleece sweater. Finally, add a windproof and waterproof outer layer, such as a jacket. This way you can take off layers as needed to regulate your body temperature as the weather changes.

Layering In Warmer Weather

Wearing the right clothes in warm weather can be a tricky endeavor. You don’t want your outfit to become too heavy or wet, but you also need something that will shield you against sunburns and insect bites!

In summer, it’s not uncommon for your only base layer to just be a tank top or hiking shirt

One way I’ve found success with layering my summer hiking clothes is by wearing a lightweight breathable base layer underneath a thin sweater. I always pack along a windproof and waterproof jacket which I can easily slip on if it unexpectedly gets windy or rainy.

Mid-Layers That Keep you Warm and Comfortable

On cold day hikes, a mid-layer is an essential piece of hiking attire for ladies. Mid-layers must provide comfort and warmth while also staying light enough for long treks in harsh conditions.

One of the best materials for mid-layers is fleece because it provides enough warmth, is able to wick perspiration and moisture away from the body while still allowing air to circulate.

Wool is another fabric to consider when looking for a women’s mid-layer due to its anti-odor properties and ability to temperature regulate.

A common question about outdoor gear is what kind of pants do women wear hiking? A great pair of pants are made of moisture-wicking material that will keep you comfortable all day long.

If you’re going to spend hours in the backcountry, you need clothes that will move with you. Wear hiking clothing that won’t rip or tear easily. Try to find durable hiking pants or shorts made from synthetic fabric for breathability like polyester or Ripstop nylon.

For extra comfort, look for pants with a gusseted crotch and an adjustable waist. You’ll be able to take on any trail without feeling restricted.

In cool weather: Choose pants with a thermal lining or insulation.

Is it OK to hike in jeans?

Jeans are not the best option when it comes to women’s hiking attire. They’re heavy, take forever to dry out after getting wet, and don’t offer much breathability on warm days. You should avoid wearing denim clothing if possible when you’re going for a hike

Comfortable Hiking Boots

Women hikers need footwear that provides support, comfort, stability, traction, and breathability. The right hiking boot will depend on what type of hike you plan on doing, how far you plan to go, and what time of year you are in the backcountry.

What to look for in Women’s Hiking Boots

Women’s Boots should fit snugly but not too tightly so they provide support without restricting circulation. Look for boots made with rubber soles that give traction on wet surfaces and rocky trails. Some hikers prefer waterproof boots to ensure your feet stay dry when hiking in cooler weather.

If you want to hike in comfort, then you’ll want to invest in some great hiking boots. There are plenty of options out there, but it’s important to find ones that are well designed, provide plenty of ankle support, and are made with high-quality materials. Salomon Trail Runners: Salomon’s Trail Runners are some of the best shoes for conquering nature’s terrain and have been voted some of the best trail running shoes on the market. Moisture-Wicking Wool Hiking Socks

Hikers know that a good pair of socks will make all the difference while on the trail, so buying the right kind is crucial. And most will tell you that Merino wool hiking socks outperform any other material (well it’s true).

Merino Wool hiking socks have the ability to keep your feet warm in the cooler months, with moisture-wicking properties that are great at reducing sweat, odor, and bacteria during the summer season, making sure your feet are comfortable all year long.

Wool socks come in different thicknesses and lengths depending on your needs and preferences. You may want to opt for a thicker merino wool sock when hiking in cold weather and a thin wool sock during warmer months. If you are concerned about blistering, try wearing two pairs of socks.

My favorite socks for her:

Women's Hiking Accessories

Hiking Essentials for Warm Weather

Good summer hiking outfits for ladies always include sun-protecting and bug-repelling accessories.

Sun Protective Hat

A wide-brimmed hat that covers your ears and neck is best if you spend lots of time outside.

If you want to stay comfortable in hot weather, look for hats that offer sun protection with mesh fabric so you don’t overheat.

I prefer wearing a baseball cap to shade my face on the trail.

Hiking Sunglasses

The sun’s UV rays can harm your eyes, so it is important to protect them with sunglasses. There are many different options for this type of accessory and everyone should bring along a pair on a day hike.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen is another essential item for hiking, especially if you’ll be hiking in a sunny climate. Choose a sunscreen that’s SPF 30 or higher and is water-resistant.

Essentials for Cold Weather Hiking

Gaiters

Gaiters offer a great way to keep your pants and socks dry while hiking. They attach easily to your boots and keep the snow and water from getting into your shoes and pants. This will help keep your feet warm and dry on all of your cold-weather adventures.

Beanies

In cold weather, it’s important to keep your head and ears warm. That’s why beanies are essential for women who like to hike in chilly conditions. Not only do they provide insulation, but they also help to regulate body temperature.

Hiking Gloves

When the temperature starts to drop, one of the first places you feel it is in your hands. And if you’re not careful, cold fingers can quickly turn into numbness and even frostbite. The key to keeping your hands warm is gloves. Look for a pair of gloves that are touchscreen-friendly so you can use your phone while wearing them.

What to Avoid in Hiking Apparel for Women

Hiking is a great way to get out and enjoy nature, but it’s important to be properly outfitted for the activity. Wearing the wrong clothing can lead to discomfort or even dangerous situations. Here are a few things to avoid when choosing apparel for a hike:

Avoid Wearing Cotton

Cotton is not the best choice of fabric to wear while on the trail. Cotton traps moisture against your skin and doesn’t let it go, making the fabric heavy while holding on to perspiration and odors.

Synthetic fabrics are much better at releasing moisture and keeping you dry and comfortable on the trail.

Avoid too loose or too tight Clothing

It is important to wear clothing that fits well, as clothing that is too loose or too tight can be uncomfortable and dangerous.

Loose clothing can get caught on branches, which can lead to injuries.

Tight clothing can restrict movement and cause discomfort, and it may also cause circulation problems.

Finding Discount Womens Hiking Apparel

You can find discount hiking gear online or in local outdoor stores. To save money, shop around and compare prices before purchasing. You can also check out second-hand stores, or watch for sales and clearance items offered by retailers.

Best Hiking Clothing for Women

The bottom line is that when it comes to hiking clothes for women, you need to be prepared for anything.  You don’t want to be caught out in the cold or the sun without the proper gear.

When you’re putting together your hiking wardrobe, it’s important to choose clothes that are comfortable, durable, and can protect you from the elements.
